Sawasdee ka from Thailand!
As you all know myself and the seven students from UNE have been traveling throughout Thailand for the past 4 weeks. We have kept in contact with friends and family back home during this trip, though difficult at times due to the time difference. A very hot topic during these conversations always seems to be revolving around the weather!
Unforuntely, for those of you back in the New England area of the United States right now, you have received rapid influxes of bitter cold weather and snow. Quite the opposite we have been forced to study during the extreme heat and humidity that plagues Thailand. Personally, I feel more comfortable in the colder weather so the heat here has been a bit difficult at times.
I admire anyone who is able to function at full capacity in weather this warm and humid on a daily basis. It is pretty crazy to walk down the streets of Bangkok, passing native Thai people sporting winter jackets and thick sweaters, while at the same time I am in shorts and a tank top looking like I just ran a marathon through the Sahara desert because of how much I am sweating! I'm sure there are many locals that must think these Americans are crazy.
In New England we are so used to having 4 seasons with extremely cold winters, very hot summers, and 2 lovely transition seasons in between. I always thought that summers back home were warm but now I am starting to appreciate our grossly warm 90°F weather, I couldn't imagine how summers here in Thailand must be!
To give you an idea (and maybe make you jealous) here are some photos of the weather forecast here in Thailand for the past few days.
This rotation has been such an amazing experience and though the heat exhaustion and dehydration was difficult to handle at times I have truly loved every day here.
Until next time,
Casey
